Conference: Learning From Peers and Professionals

Having attended the past two PRSSA National Conferences, I am excited for this year’s Conference to be in Washington, D.C., and to be from one of the host schools. I look forward to seeing old friends and making new connections, having a great time while learning and networking every day... [more]

Jump Into PRSSA at National Conference

There is no better way to get involved in PRSSA than by attending National Conference and meeting other members just like you — students who are ready to learn and take advantage of the chance to network with professionals and other members.

My first decision as a PRSSA member in fall 2007 was to attend National Conference in Philadelphia, and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. During those days in Philadelphia, I networked with professionals for the first time, learned about different types of public relations and met public relations students from across the country... 12 Lessons Learned From the 2010 Bateman Case Study Competition

In any public relations program, you learn the basics — effective writing, strategy and research. University of Georgia’s program is no different. As a top-ranked public relations school, our professors constantly drive us to be excellent public relations practitioners by working ethically and strategically. That sounds good on paper, but putting it all to test for the first time can be a rollercoaster of an experience... [more]

Setting the Pace

Having never really been a joiner, it was mostly due to the urging of a professor that I wandered into a PRSSA meeting one night. I was in my junior year at San Diego State University, done with the many prerequisite courses, and I was beginning my journey into the world of public relations.

I had no idea what to expect when I entered the room, but I figured an hour would not kill me, so I decided to stay. I had no idea that this organization would be so instrumental in the landing of my first “real” job out of college... [more]

Diversity/Ethics Career Development

Ethics 101

Here we are, in the midst of our busy September happenings. As the semester starts rolling, the hustle and bustle of our busy lives can often cause us to lose track of those things that are truly meaningful. September is arguably the most important month in the field of public relations and by now, I’m sure you are wondering why…and by now, certainly you have remembered that September is the best month because it is finally time to celebrate Ethics Month!

Ethics month is a time to celebrate the spirit of public relations through ethical conduct, practice, and promotion. After all, ethics is the very backbone and definition of our industry. It allows us to take pride in such an amazing profession that stands for such outstanding professional values.

As future leaders of the industry, it is our obligation to lead by example and show our peers and everyone else watching how ethical public relations is practiced. We are all the future of this industry and we have the power to set the.. [more]

Building a Job-Winning Resume Through Professional Development in College

At last year’s PRSSA National Conference, I met college juniors who had resumes rivaling the top entry-level candidates at most agencies. With a year to go in college, they will have no problem landing jobs when they graduate, I predict.

What do these wunderkinds have in common? Impressive resumes filled with relevant public relations experiences and internships. Their resumes were filled with on-campus volunteer work for sororities, fraternities, student government, campus newspapers and nonprofits. Several had three or more internships, and one had a mind-blowing 13 internships dating back to high school. In addition, several of these students had attended more than one extra-curricular professional development seminar in the past year. After meeting these future public relations leaders, I have urged other students to begin focusing on their resume development sooner than later. With fierce competition for jobs, standout resumes will rise to the top of agency and corporate lists o.. [more]
