Haley Higgs

Haley Higgs, 2011–2012 vice president of Regional Conferences, is a recent graduate of Georgia Southern University and will start graduate school at Georgia Southern University in the fall. She received a BS degree in public relations and a BA degree in creative writing with a minor in marketing.

Higgs has been a member of PRSSA for five years. Through her first few years in PRSSA, she  served in multiple executive board positions. During her senior year, she was elected to serve as president of the Georgia Southern Chapter of PRSSA. She worked with her executive board and Chapter to submit a bid for a Regional Activity.

In the spring of 2011, Higgs, serving as Chapter president and Regional Activity Coordinator, along with the Georgia Southern Chapter, successfully hosted the first Regional Activity in the state of Georgia. The Regional Activity attracted students and professionals from across five states, incorporated breakout speakers from the United States and abroad, and hosted internationally acclaimed social media guru, Peter Shankman, as the event’s keynote speaker.

As president, Higgs led a group of six executive board members as they worked together to doubled active membership, host biweekly meetings and events and work together to host a successful Regional Activity.

During her undergraduate years, Higgs completed three public relations internships. She worked five years as public relations intern and student assistant in the Department of Communication Arts at Georgia Southern University. For a year, she worked a virtual internship with Carpenter and Co. out of Atlanta, Georgia, where she managed social media and public relations for a new start-up company. During her final year of undergrad, Haley served as the public relations intern at Willingway Hospital in Statesboro, Georgia, one of the top 10 drug and alcohol treatment centers in the nation.

During her academic career, Higgs received the PRSSA National Gold Key award, multiple departmental scholarships and was named PR Student of the Year during her final year. Since graduation, Higgs continues to work at Willingway Hospital, now as the part time public relations coordinator.

In her spare time, Higgs enjoys watching classic movies, participating in outdoor activities, spending time with family and friends and any excuse to visit the closest Starbucks.
