About National Assembly
December 2009
To: PRSSA Chapter Members and Faculty Advisors
From: Rebecca Timms, PRSSA National President
On behalf of the 2009–2010 National Committee, I am pleased to announce the PRSSA 2010 National Assembly, March 11–14 at the Hyatt Regency Austin. Below are general details about Assembly.
Who should attend?
National Assembly is a unique opportunity for Chapter leaders to shape the future of our Society. As noted in the PRSSA National Bylaws, each Chapter has the privilege of electing one official delegate to represent Chapter members at the Assembly. PRSSA will pay for each delegate’s three-night stay during the Assembly in a quad room at the Hyatt. See the registration form for details about financial assistance.
In addition to the official Assembly delegate, Chapters may send other Chapter members to attend as non-delegates. Non-delegates must pay a $60 registration fee and are not eligible for financial assistance.
What does Assembly involve?
Official delegates will vote on proposed bylaw amendments and elect the 2010–2011 National Committee. All attendees may attend leadership training sessions, Assembly meetings and socials.
- Assembly leadership sessions are a series of interactive workshops that aim to increase awareness of PRSSA’s national programs and enhance participants’ leadership skills. The sessions provide local- and national-level leadership training, forge a stronger relationship between your Chapter and the National Committee, and build knowledge of national PRSSA programs and benefits.
- The eighth annual Day-of Competition provides students the opportunity to create a “real-world” public relations campaign for a major client in a short timeframe.
Running for the National Committee
National Assembly allows members to run for positions on the National Committee. Candidates may be an official delegate or non-delegate. Anyone considering a National office should contact the current committee member with questions and read past and current PRSSA Situation Analyses, which provide an overview of the Society’s history, past research, timelines and explanations of the National Committee responsibilities and programs. The 2010 Situation Analysis will be posted on the PRSSA Web site in January.
The Candidate Nomination Form is available online.
The National Assembly is a key leadership and learning opportunity for your Chapter members, so please consider sending a delegate and other Chapter representatives. Feel free to contact me, any member of the National Committee or PRSSA Headquarters with questions or concerns.
See you in Austin!
