Public Relations Can be a Real Vacation: Working in the Travel and Tourism Industry Mary Gendron
PUBLIC RELATIONS CAN BE A REAL VACATION: WORKING IN THE TRAVEL AND TOURISM INDUSTRY (PowerPoint presentation)
Mary Gendron is president of Middleton & Gendron, Inc., an award-winning New York City-based brand communications agency specializing in promoting high-end travel, real estate and luxury goods and services. The agency launched Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts in the U.S., representing that company for 20 years, and has been retained by countless other blue chip companies including Rolex, U.S.A., The Trump Organization, Singapore Airlines, FAO Schwarz, Preferred Hotel Group, Hong Kong Tourism Board and Regent International Hotels. Gendron and her partner, Yvonne Middleton, have been in business together since 1980, spearheading successful image-making and groundbreaking public relations campaigns. With an exceptional staff, they have launched new companies, repositioned existing ones, managed crises with worldwide impact, organized celebrity and charity galas and sports tournaments, forged compelling co-marketing partnerships, and helped their clients communicate effectively through newsletters, brochures and websites. Gendron oversees public relations efforts and is integrally involved with accounts such as the recently launched Capella Hotels & Resorts and Preferred Hotel Group. Prior to moving into public relations, Gendron was editor of Hotel & Motel Management magazine and engineered its redesign from a standard to a tabloid format. For three years prior to that, she was part of Gralla Publications, and was instrumental in the launch of Meeting News magazine, for which she served as the magazine’s first managing editor. Mary’s career has included extensive travel and speaking engagements before major industry groups. Her writing – as a journalist and on behalf of agency clients – has appeared in a wide range of media. She has been the subject of interviews in media including USA Today and Cosmopolitan. A Wisconsin native, Mary moved to New York City in 1976 after earning her B.A. in journalism from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She resides with her husband, Patrick Augustyn, and two children, in Leonia, New Jersey.
