Rosie Braude
Rosie Braude is a senior at Rowan University, where she is earning a degree in public relations with a minor in French. Currently, Rosie is the president of the Rowan PRSSA Chapter and oversees an executive board of 15 other members. During the 2006-2007 school year, Rosie served as the Rowan PRSSA vice president of finance and was responsible for managing the Chapter’s budget, organizing fund-raisers and collecting membership dues. She also wrote a column for her Chapter’s monthly newsletter, PRomo, and served as the 2007 National Organ Donor Awareness Competition (NODAC) chairperson. As a proud member of Rowan PRSSA’s student-run firm, PRaction, Rosie has worked special events, written press releases and designed promotional items for clients. Rosie works for Rowan’s Office of University Events, where she helps plan and execute events around the campus including Convocation, dedication ceremonies and Commencement. She is also a member of the communication honor society, Lambda Pi Eta, the senior honor society, Mortar Board, and the international honour society, Golden Key. After graduation, Rosie hopes to attend graduate school and then work for a public relations agency. In her spare time, Rosie enjoys scrapbooking, watching old movies, visiting art museums and spending time with her friends.
Bianca Holman
Bianca Holman is a senior at Howard University, pursuing a degree in public relations and a minor in theatre arts administration. She will graduate in May 2008, at which time she hopes to work in entertainment and lifestyle PR. As a three-year member of Howard’s D. Parke Gibson Chapter of PRSSA, Bianca has participated in internships for D.C. Public Charter School Board and Manning Selvage & Lee PR. Bianca has extended her hunger for experience by volunteering at the National Minority Aids Council and the 2006 Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards. Most recently, she completed a successful 2007 summer internship with Clear Channel Norfolk. Her experience as operations manager for the Howard University Homecoming Steering Committee and fundraising chair for Alpha Chapter, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. has prepared her for the position of conference coordinator. As operations manager, she oversaw volunteers, secured venues, backline equipment, and artist technical riders for seven events that were attended by over 30,000 people. Bianca served as assistant stage manager for Howard University’s Fine Art Department’s “A Chorus Line” in March 2007. In that role, she aided in conducting auditions, rehearsals, recording blocking, calling cues and corresponding with the cast and the production team. Bianca has also written for the daily school publication, The Hilltop. Bianca loves public relations because of its versatility and the opportunities for her to combine her various interests. Her childhood as a military dependant supports her love for people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Bianca lives by the quote, “Live life so that no one dead, alive, or yet to be born can do it better than you.”
Nicole Galvin
Nicole Galvin is a senior at Rowan University where she will proudly graduate in May 2008 with a degree in public relations and a minor in journalism. Through her involvement with Rowan PRSSA’s student-run firm, PRaction, Nicole has gained the experience needed to pursue a career in a public relations agency upon graduation. An active member of PRSSA since 2006, Nicole has served on the E-board as vice president of operations for PRaction and is now the firm’s president. Aside from her involvement in PRSSA, Nicole is also a member of Mortar Board, the senior honor society, and hopes to join Lambda Pi Eta, the communication honor society, this fall. Nicole has worked part time for Rowan University’s Alumni Relations department since fall 2004; she was also the public relations intern for the department last spring. In her free time, Nicole enjoys the concept of relaxation, spending time with friends and loved ones, and catching up on her favorite show: “One Tree Hill.”
Farren Hinton
Farren Hinton is a driven young woman hailing from El Paso, Texas who will graduate from Howard University in May of 2008 with a B.A. in journalism and public relations and minor in fashion merchandising. Her future plans include work in the field of fashion public relations, and attending law school in the fall of 2008. During her time as a student at the prestigious John H. Johnson School of Communications, Farren has taken part in a number of activities including the Howard University Association of Black Journalists, the NAACP and the D. Parke Gibson Chapter of PRSSA. She also worked as an intern for the Office of University Communications, where she assisted in handling media relations for a number of high-profile events on campus – including Howard University Homecoming events and a visit by Democratic Senator John Kerry.
Ayanna Redwood-Crawford
Ayanna Redwood-Crawford is currently pursuing a degree in public relations with a minor in fashion merchandising at Howard University. Upon graduation, Ayanna hopes to have a career in entertainment and fashion PR with an emphasis on event planning. Ayanna has been involved with PRSSA for the past year and half and is extremely excited to be a part of this year’s National Conference. Along with PRSSA, Ayanna has obtained invaluable hands-on public relations skills from her internships with boutique music PR agencies such as Ida S. Langsam (ISL) PR in New York and New Patriot PR in Washington, D.C. She has also worked as the PR director for the Ben Wilson Group LTD., a nonprofit organization committed to African-American education based out of Pittsburgh, Penn. At all of her internships, Ayanna has implemented PR strategies, written press releases, compiled press kits and was constantly in communication with media. At Howard University, Ayanna currently serves as one of the event specialists for the Howard University Student Association and is chairperson for Howard University’s Excellence Awards ceremony. Ayanna is eager to embark upon her professional journey in public relations and is confident that her abilities in writing, planning and her genuine love for communications will take her far.
Rebecca Timms
A sophomore public relations major, Rebecca already proves herself capable and committed to making events run smoothly. Her attention to detail, knowledge of Philadelphia and quick decision-making skills make her perfect for this crucial and involved position. Throughout her high school career, she led and aided committees in planning numerous class and school-wide events and, in addition to her logistical work, is coordinating this year’s Community Service Challenge. Rebecca is active in both Rowan and national PRSSA and has been a member since the fall of 2006. She wrote for her chapter newsletter, PRomo, five times last year and was involved in two student-run firm accounts. She also attended the PRSSA 2006 National Conference and National Assembly in the spring. This year, she is Rowan’s local liaison and, as such, will seek to improve relationships with the Philadelphia and New Jersey PRSA and PRSSA chapters through networking events and mentoring programs. Having completed an internship at Thomas/Boyd Communications, an agency in Moorestown, N.J., she now enters her second year of undergraduate work in the Rowan University Marketing Office. In her spare time, Rebecca is a youth leader in her church and helps out in her high school’s theater department. She enjoys meeting new people, the arts, reading anything and everything, politics and exploring Philadelphia with friends.
Amy Ovsiew
Amy Ovsiew is currently a senior at Rowan University, where she is double majoring in public relations and journalism. Amy is the publications coordinator for Rowan PRSSA and is responsible for its Teahan award-winning monthly newsletter, PRomo. She is also a member of PRaction, Rowan PRSSA’s student-run firm. In the past two years, Amy has held internships in the magazines department of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, the marketing and public relations department of the State Theatre of New Jersey and the special events department of a local South Jersey nonprofit agency. At Rowan, Amy works as a production assistant for the Office of University Publications, where she creates materials including brochures, fliers and advertisements for the campus and contributes to the school’s alumni magazine, Rowan Magazine. Amy has also served as a copy editor for Rowan’s weekly newspaper, The Whit, and has written several freelance articles for local publications. She is a member of the national communications honor society, Lambda Pi Eta, and the Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society. In her free time, Amy enjoys knitting, swimming and watching old episodes of “The West Wing.” After graduating, Amy plans to attend graduate school and then enter the publications field.
Cortney Cleveland
Cortney Cleveland is presently pursuing a degree in public relations with a minor in psychology at Howard University. Upon graduation in May 2009, she hopes to cultivate a public relations career in the media and entertainment industries. Cortney’s desire to blend her business mindset with her creativity and expression is what first drew her to public relations. Since discovering the field, she has jumped at every opportunity to improve her knowledge of it. She has completed internships with the United States Senate under the tutelage of Senator Paul S. Sarbanes, as well as the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, a nonprofit organization geared toward assisting honors college students. Her most recent endeavor is a public relations internship with one of Washington DC’s top radio stations, WPGC 95.5FM. In her spare time, Cortney enjoys devoting her time to various organizations on campus. She is a fellow in the Walter H. Annenberg Honors Program of the John H. Johnson School of Communications, vice president of public relations for Howard University’s chapter of the National Society of Collegiate Scholars, a contributing writer for The Hilltop, Howard University’s daily student newspaper, and is a member of Howard’s PRSSA D. Parke Gibson Chapter.
