PRSSA Diversity Statement

The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) embraces all individuals regardless of background, culture, education, age, disability, gender and sexual orientation. PRSSA recognizes the importance of different experiences, perspectives and voices in making a viable society that aids the profession and future professionals serving diversified and increasingly multicultural publics. Furthermore, all PRSSA members are called and expected to uphold the pillars of professionalism, advancement and ethical behavior as prescribed in the PRSA Code of Ethics, so as to ensure a noble progression of advocacy through the public relations field.

2005-2006 Objectives

The primary goals for PRSSA diversity efforts in 2005-2006 are to raise awareness of the new Diversity Initiative and promote the steps taken by PRSSA to recognize and cultivate Diversity. Our objectives for 2005-2006 follow:

  1. To create a PRSA/PRSSA affiliated member survey to gauge members' attitudes, beliefs and demographics regarding Diversity.

  2. To incorporate Diversity into all Regional Activities.

  3. To create a FORUM column focusing on Diversity.

  4. To create a national award recognizing Diversity efforts.

  5. To form a "Diversity Recruitment" section under Best Practices Forum.

  6. To establish a National Committee position of Vice President of Advocacy and Diversity

The PRSSA National Conference, an annual event, offers an exciting opportunity to learn about the field of public relations. PRSA and PRSSA hold their conferences concurrently to facilitate networking, exciting sessions and career opportunities.
