Philadelphia is one of the oldest and most historic cities in the United States. The nation was founded here as an innovative country promising liberty, justice and freedom for all.

Our city of the founding fathers is still thriving as a center of success. With age comes character, history and a strong foundation to remain one of the nation’s most beloved and visited cities. A forerunner in history, culture, food, art, and thriving businesses, Philadelphia stays on top of the world by reinventing itself. Many industries thrive in the surrounding area, including pharmaceuticals, sports, communications, fashion and more.

The food and art scene are top examples of the cultural innovations found in Philadelphia alone. Cheesesteaks are named after the city; fresh foods flood the streets in places such as the Reading Terminal Market (across the street from the Conference hotel, the Loews Philadelphia). Philadelphia has turned graffiti into world class murals and as such is home to more murals than any city in the world; more than 3,000 works of art in all.

Because Philadelphia is laid out in the same way it was when William Penn designed the city more than 300 years ago, the city is walk-able and easy to navigate unique neighborhoods that each define themselves through original shops, restaurants, art, landmarks, and music. The character of the city is unlike any other as the subways duck under cobble stone streets and unique architecture left from long ago.

The city is located centrally in the Northeast within near distance of New York City, Washington D.C., Wilmington, DE,  rural farms, mountains, beaches and more. Attendees can get to Philadelphia easily by trains, planes, highways and rivers.

For these reasons, Philadelphia is the perfect place to host our 2013 Conference with the theme, “Foundation for Innovation.” As the 2013 National Conference host, Drexel University is excited to share how our city, our school and our industry have taught us the value of innovation and the strong foundation necessary for successful growth and development.
