Brigham Young University - "BYU Annual Fund Letters"

February 2005 National FUNdraising Bowl Winners

Amount Raised: $3,250

Implementation Date: February 3-11, 2005

Suggested Planning Time: One Month

Number of Staff Needed: 2-3 faculty, 1 Alumni Department coordinator, approximately 85 students

BYU students writing thank you letters to university donors.

Promotion for Event:
Promotion of this event primarily involved recruiting students to help copy the approved letters. PRSSA members were informed personally in a classroom setting, as well as through an article in the Chapter newsletter written by the fundraising director. The PRSSA council then split up the approved letters and delegated much of the copying with the help of classmates, roommates, and friends.

Description of Event
The Alumni Department at BYU has a program that coordinates all donations and contributions to the university called the BYU Annual Fund. Our PRSSA Chapter wrote thank you letters to university donors for this program, and earned $50 for every set of ten thank you letters written.
The planning phase involved a meeting with the fundraising director and the coordinator from the Alumni Department to set up the project, outline rules and set a timetable. A calendar was created and dates set for writing the original letters, approving the letters, and then copying each approved letter ten times (each with a different donor name).

Additional Information:
Organization is everything for this fundraiser. Such a huge ordeal could not have been achieved successfully without adherence to a strict timeline, faithful record-keeping and the cooperation and support of an incredible PRSSA council!
