Illinois State University - "Lights, Camera, Fashion"

April 2006 National FUNdraising Bowl Winners

Amount Raised: $650

Implementation Dates: March 2, 2006

Suggested Planning Time: 4-6 months

Number of Staff Needed: at least 5 for pre-planning; at least 6 for night of the show

Description of Event:
We had three segments of clothing inspired by a Miami Beach awards show. The first was day wear, followed by red carpet and the show finished with after-party clothes. We had 30 student models along with three communication faculty model the clothes. Local clothing stored loaned clothes for the night for the models to wear and some models just wore their own clothes. We had two ISU dance teams perform. We had a deejay from ISU’s radio station emcee the night. After the show was over we had a raffle. The format for the show is as follows:

  • Dance team opened the show
  • Emcee introduced show and give info about ISU PRSSA
  • Day Wear clothing
  • Dance team performance
  • Red Carpet clothing
  • Other dance team performance
  • After-party clothing
  • Closing by emcee
  • Raffle

Promotion for Event:
We promoted by posting flyers in the communication building for two weeks before the show and around the entire campus the week before. We sold tickets on the quad for the week leading up to the show which also got the word out about the fashion show. We scheduled the show during Communication Week so our show was included in the brochures and flyers for the week. We asked our members to spread the word in their classes as well as to their friends. We also had radio spots on ISU’s radio station for two weeks leading up to the show. We were also on ISU’s University Calendar.

How did you encourage members to participate?
We asked our members to be models and made sure the event was fun and enjoyable so they would want to attend. This is the largest yearly fundraiser ISU PRSSA has so members were encouraged to come out and support their chapter.
