A Brief History | The First Chapters | National Committees

Cristina Seiter

  • 2005-2006 Vice President of Internships/Job Services

Cristina Seiter, vice president of internships/ job services, joins the National Committee from Northern Michigan University. This fall she will begin her senior year at NMU majoring in public relations with a minor in political science. She has been very involved at her local PRSSA Chapter level, serving as treasurer in 2003/04 and president in 2004/05. It was due to the encouragement of a former NMU graduate and National Committee vice president that she ran for a position this 2005/06 term.

Cristina began her college career like most of her fellow freshmen-as an undeclared major. After a great deal of pressuring from her mom she spoke to and talked to the head of the communication department at NMU about public relations. From this meeting she realized that a career in PR was perfect for her.

Through her PRSSA involvement and networking, Cristina had the opportunity to gain valuable experience in PR. Her sophomore year she served on the publicity and entertainment committee for the 2004 Short Track Speed Skating World Cup. This event was hosted by NMU and brought athletes to Michigan from 25 countries. Due to the success of the event, NMU was selected as the host of the 2006 U.S. Short Track Olympic Trials. Cristina will be actively involved in this event as she interns for the U.S. Olympic Education Center next fall. This summer she was an intern for the Hospice of Michigan’s communication department. She worked mainly with the internal communications and development aspects of this non-profit organization.

This year she will work to increase the usage of JobCenter by PRSSA members and businesses. She believes that this database is an amazing tool for members who are researching jobs and internships.

After graduating in May 2006, Cristina hopes to travel to Europe for a month before entering the “real world.” Her dream has been to work in the PR department for the Detroit Red Wings. Due to the recent lockout she isn’t sure if this will happen. If her dream doesn’t come true, she will pursue a career in PR with other athletic teams.

Favorite quote: “In a world where you can be anything … be yourself.”

In 2002, at the PRSSA National Assembly in San Diego, CA, the longest PRSSA National Assembly lasted 13 hours and brought in the new National Committee 2002-2003. One Hundred and fifty delegates attended enjoying leadership and a behind the scenes look at PRSSA.
