A Brief History | The First Chapters | National Committees

Erin C. Pierce

  • 2005-2006 Vice President of Public Relations

Erin C. Pierce is a dark chocolate fanatic, a mountain and road biker, a car radio singer, a converted news junkie, an aspiring world traveler, a “lefty” and a milkshake connoisseur. She is also the PRSSA 2005-2006 national vice president of public relations.

A senior public relations major at Brigham Young University, Erin has immersed herself in causes she believes in, working with humanitarian organizations such as the United Way, American Red Cross and the Food and Care Coalition.

During her junior year, Erin combined her enthusiasm for both humanitarian work and public relations practice when she served as the public relations and advertising coordinator for the university’s service center. In April 2005, she was recognized as Outstanding Student Humanitarian by the Utah Campus Compact.

Erin’s public relations education has been greatly enhanced by her experience as an account executive for BYU’s student-run firm, a reporter, an intern at Edelman Worldwide in northern California and most importantly as a member of PRSSA.

Active involvement in PRSSA has enhanced Erin’s education and college experience to an extent she never could have imagined. The knowledge, experience, memories and relationships she has gained through PRSSA are invaluable to her and will long outlast college graduation.

Erin’s greatest values in life, however, are her family and close friends with whom she shares life’s joys and adventures. Whether biking hundreds of miles, road-tripping or simply sitting and talking, her memories with her mom, dad, brother and close friends bring her the greatest happiness.

Favorite quotes:

“Whoever controls the media controls the mind.”
–Jim Morrison

“If we always live for tomorrow we will have a lot of empty yesterdays.”
–Thomas S. Monson

“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the things you did… So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor, catch the tradewinds in your sails. Explore. Dream.”
–Mark Twain

The PRSSA chapter's university must offer a sequence of at least five courses in public relations to establish and maintain a chapter:

  • Principles, Practice and Theory of Public Relations
  • Public Relations Techniques: Writing, Message Dissemination and Media Networking
  • Public Relations Research for Planning and Evaluation
  • Public Relations Strategy and Implementation
  • Public Relations Supervised Experience
