A Brief History | The First Chapters | National Committees

James M. DeVoy

  • 2006-2007 FORUM Editor-in-Chief

FORUM Editor-in-Chief James DeVoy is a senior at Canisius College in Buffalo, New York. DeVoy commenced his membership in PRSSA at the beginning of his freshman year, joining in the fall of 2003. Since that time, he has served as Chapter Treasurer and Co-President. In the spring of 2004, DeVoy and three friends founded The Courier as a student-oriented, student-run newspaper at Canisius College, which continues publishing today. With increasing roles of responsibility within both PRSSA and The Courier, DeVoy consolidated his publishing experience with his public relations background in submitting a bid for FORUM, subsequently becoming the publication’s Editor-in-Chief.

In addition to his collegiate journalism experience, DeVoy is also employed by the WorldWebDex Publishing Family, a national publisher of membership directories and specialty phonebooks in print and online. Here, DeVoy oversees and administers numerous project and client services, including writing content for community profiles and relocation guides.

DeVoy’s experience also entails a significant portion of community service. Once a public relations intern for the Boy Scouts of America, DeVoy is himself an Eagle Scout and served on the steering committee to for a regional Eagle Scout alumni association. DeVoy currently serves as treasurer for this 50-plus member organization.

When not engaged in academic or professional pursuits, DeVoy enjoys reading the works of authors including Hunter S. Thompson, Ayn Rand and Ben Stein. DeVoy also enjoys being outside, camping, hiking and donates as much time as he can to advocating and volunteering for causes which are economically or fiscally conservative.

DeVoy plans to graduate with honors from Canisius College in the spring of 2007, earning his degree in communication studies with a specialty in public relations. He is currently considering graduate school.
