Maria Quidez
- 2005-2006 Vice President of Regional Activities
Maria Quidez, 2005-2006 national vice president of Regional Activities, is a senior at the University of Hawaii at Manoa (UHM) in Honolulu, Hawaii. She is pursuing a double-major in journalism with a focus on public relations and Philippine language and literature.
During her last year in PRSSA, she looks forward to continuing the Regional Activity program and to having more participating Chapters, whether they host an event or attend.
Having served as the Chapter’s Regional Activity coordinator in 2004 and 2005, Maria brings her first-hand knowledge and experience to the position. In fall 2003, Maria joined PRSSA and realized that public relations was for her. She jumped right in and became Chapter treasurer and in the following spring co-chaired the Chapter’s first Regional Activity. She then went on to become Chapter vice president and Regional Activity coordinator for a second year.
During the semester, Maria works at the university’s sports information office. As a fan of college basketball and football, she says that working there lets her mix business with pleasure.
Through her connections with the Hawaii PRSA Chapter, Maria was able to intern at the Hawaiian Humane Society this summer where she worked as the community events coordinator. Last summer, Maria interned at one of the largest public relations firms in Hawaii, McNeil Wilson Communications.
Outside of her life as a public relations nerd, Maria likes to play basketball and help out with her high school girl’s basketball team. Being an immigrant from the Philippines, Maria is fluent in Tagalog and is involved with an on-campus Philippine language club.
