Lindsey+Asp, the student-run advertising and public relations firm from the Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Oklahoma, recently landed a contract with the U.S. Army’s Fires Center of Excellence at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla. The one-year contract is worth $77,500 in service to the Office of Strategic Communication and is renewable up to four more years for a total of $387,500.
This is the biggest contract to date for Lindsey+Asp. The firm will produce a variety of collateral materials to promote the museums at Fort Sill, along with planning and executing a number of communication campaigns.
“I think it’s huge that in only our third year of operation, we have been able to land a contract like this,” said Bob “Pritch” Pritchard, APR, Fellow PRSA, Faculty Adviser for Lindsey+Asp and PRSSA 2011-2013 National Faculty Adviser. “It shows the professionalism and talent of our young professionals and gives them a real edge as they enter the business world.”
This opportunity is partly the result of the firm having a solid policy and procedures manual. The manual helps keep the firm’s staff organized and is a reference for students with questions about any aspect of the firm’s operations.
Lindsey+Asp has a competitive selection process. High-quality output is dependent on high-quality staff. An application, interview and portfolio review process involving the Lindsey+Asp Faculty Advisers and student leaders ensures the selection of top students in the program to serve in the firm.
“I hope our success and the success of other student-run firms across the nation inspires every program to engage in this type of experiential learning,” Pritch said. “In addition to giving students a leg-up in the internship and job search, student-run firms have a very positive impact on the community and can literally change the world.”
