Adding your name to a list can now make you a hero.
Thousands of Americans remain on the organ donation list; these people seek candidates willing to donate and save the lives of others. Unfortunately, the hundreds of patients on the list outnumber those signed up to donate.
For the 17th year, the Anthony J. Fulginiti PRSSA Chapter at Rowan University encourages PRSSA Chapters across the nation to participation in its annual National Organ Day Awareness Competition (NODAC). The competition invites each PRSSA Chapter to join Rowan in the goal to spread knowledge about organ donation across campuses nationwide while allowing PRSSA members to enhance their public relations skills.
The story begins in 1992, when Anthony J. Fulginiti, APR, Fellow PRSA, Rowan PRSSA's founder and then Faculty Adviser, received a life-saving kidney transplant. The Chapter hosted its first Organ Donor Day in the spring following the operation and began to host NODAC in 1996.
Rowan PRSSA hosts its annual Organ Donor Day in April during National Donate Life Month to educate the Rowan University campus and surrounding community about organ donation. Rowan PRSSA created NODAC to encourage PRSSA Chapters around the country to join in the awareness and host similar events.
Beginning immediately and running through March 15, interested Chapters should fill out the NODAC application and assemble their final packets to be submitted by May 18. The first place Chapter will receive $400 and a plaque at the PRSSA 2013 National Conference awards ceremony in Philadelphia in October. Chapters placing second through fourth also receive monetary awards and plaques.
