On February 28, 2002 88 members from 5 PRSSA chapters gathered at Texas Tech University for their regional activity themed “Lone Star PR: Behind the Scenes.”
The event kicked off with “PR Day” hosted by the School of Mass Communications. Guest speakers included Heidi Temple, Edelman PR, Chris Duo, Cotton Kings, Mike Breslin, Ketchum PR, and several others. Their final panel discussion answered a wide range of questions about jobs, the economy, resume writing and job search.
Texas Tech held a career fair on Friday attracting numerous local businesses. Also, members divided into nine competing groups Friday morning, assigned case and had 7.5 hours to plan a crisis case solution. Local professionals judged the entries, and announcing the winners took place at the Saturday morning Awards Banquet.
The members attending relaxed at a Lubbock minor league hockey game. Faculty Advisor to the Texas Tech PRSSA Chapter, Dr. Michael Parkinson commented on the planning process, saying the best part of planning was, “…the first volunteer meeting with so many (Texas Tech) members attending.”
Tracie Wright, the regional activity coordinator, talked about enjoying, “…the high level of chapter development, university recognition, and how everyone came together to work towards a common goal.”
