$1,500 Leonard McLean Public Relations Scholarship

Sponsored by PRSA Alaska Chapter

2007-2008 application form: PDF | DOC

The Leonard McLean Scholarship is named for one of the founders of the Alaska Chapter of PRSA, in honor of his contributions to the local organization and to the advancement of the public relations profession. The scholarship is awarded annually to an Alaska resident studying for a career in public relations. Applicants must be full-time students who have a declared major in the communications field with an emphasis in public relations, at a four-year institution of higher education. Applicants must be members of a local PRSSA chapter.

Scholastic achievement is considered in the selection process, but it is by no means the only criterion. It is used as an indicator of the applicant’s ability to grow through learning. Other deciding factors include seriousness in pursuing professional goals, recommendation by instructors, employers and others who know the applicant’s past experience, and potential for success in the public relations field.

Please attach the following information to the completed application (on reverse side).

  1. A resume including any academic honors, special projects, activities and/or work experience/training which you would like to be taken into consideration.

  2. An official transcript of all college studies, including grades of the preceding semester.

  3. A one-page essay explaining your public relations career interests and goals.

  4. Two strong writing samples or PR campaign plans (can include class work).

  5. Two letters of academic and/or professional recommendations -- one of which must be from an instructor of a public relations course you have taken or are currently enrolled in. The person making the recommendation should send the letter under separate cover directly to the PRSA Alaska Chapter at the address shown below.

Deadline: Applications must be postmarked on or before Thursday, November 15, 2007

Deliver your completed application packet in a sealed envelope to:

PRSA Alaska Chapter
Attn: Len McLean Scholarship
P.O. Box 241812
Anchorage, AK 99524

Your name must be placed prominently on the envelope/packet.

All applications will be delivered to the PRSA Scholarship Coordinators in Anchorage. A panel of PRSA members will review all applications. Finalists will be invited to a formal interview to be held by teleconference.
