This award, established in 2004, will honor a PRSSA member who has achieved outstanding success in their academic studies of public relations and an excellent understanding of ethical conduct in the profession. The award – to be presented annually for five years – has been funded through a generous contribution by Mr. & Dr. Douglas M. Fenichel (Doug Fenichel is Norman’s son.)
Norman Fenichel started his career as a newspaper, magazine and radio journalist. He spent most of his career working in the New York Metropolitan area for various public relations agencies and corporations. When he retired, he was principal of his own firm. He is a past president of the Connecticut Valley Chapter of PRSA chaired the accreditation committee. He also is a founding member of the Connecticut Chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. An Army combat veteran, he holds bachelor degrees in journalism and psychology from Syracuse University.
Doug Fenichel, APR, and his wife, Karen, are honoring Norman by granting this scholarship to a PRSSA member. We know the scholarship recipient will make them all proud.
The 2008 recipient will be recognized at the PRSSA 2008 National Conference in Detroit during the annual Awards Ceremony. The winner will receive a $500 award and a formal national certificate.

Eligibility Requirements
The applicant must:
- Be a member of PRSSA in good standing
- Include a typed, completed Application Form
- Include a typed 1,000 – 1,200-word essay explaining the importance of having high ethical standards in the field of public relations and what that means to the profession
- Include a recommendation letter from either an internship provider or professor
- Include a recommendation letter from your PRSSA Faculty Advisor
