Used by everyone from DIYers to designers to students, Duck Tape® is ideal for personalizing and creating everything from home décor to crafts to apparel and accessories. Constantly expanding its palette, Duck Tape® is now available in more than 200 colors, designs and licenses, including a line of officially licensed College Duck Tape®.

Launched in fall 2011, College Duck Tape® is licensed through NCAA colleges and features the logos and mascots of select college and university teams, including:

Challenge

While most college students are familiar with duct tape, College Duck Tape® is relatively new to the market and does not have a high level of awareness among college students or alumni.

From dorm room repairs to personalized pennants and flags to take to games, there are unlimited possibilities for College Duck Tape®.  Focusing on your school’s particular tape, create a strategic public relations campaign to raise awareness for College Duck Tape® on your campus. Your campaign should support and culminate in a College Duck Tape® football tailgate event.

Objectives

  • Build brand awareness for College Duck Tape® on campus.
  • Communicate the fun and functional nature of the product.
  • Target current students, but also incorporate alumni outreach where possible.

Campaign Requirements

To participate in this challenge, the team’s PRSSA Chapter must belong to a school represented in the brand’s line of College Duck Tape®. To be eligible to participate in the Campaign, all team members must be full-time undergraduate or graduate students who are current PRSSA members (paid November 2012 or March 2013) from the same PRSSA Chapter. A team may have no less than three and no more than four members. There may be multiple teams from the same Chapter.

Teams will be required to register for the Campaign through the PRSSA website by August 31. Teams may begin working on the campaign as soon as they have received registration confirmation from PRSSA Headquarters.

Campaigns should support and culminate in a College Duck Tape® football tailgate event. Teams will be required to electronically submit a two-page PDF summary of their campaign, including evaluation, to PRSSA Headquarters by Nov. 1. PRSSA Headquarters will share these campaigns with Duck Tape®. Duck Tape® will select first, second and third place recipients, which will then be announced by PRSSA Headquarters no later than November 11.

Teams must have an adviser. Advisers can stimulate creativity and give direction, but may not contribute to the actual creation of the campaign. The team adviser is not required to be the Chapter’s Faculty or Professional Adviser.

Duck Tape® will provide a maximum number of 18 rolls of tape (with the school’s logo/mascot on it) to each team. Duck Tape® will ship the tape directly to the team contacts. This is the maximum amount of tape that will be provided by Duck Tape®. Teams may purchase additional tape with their own funds. 

Each team must select one team member or their adviser to receive communication from PRSSA. PRSSA may make additions to the campaign rules and guidelines at any time during the campaign and all additions will be emailed to your team contact. Teams are responsible to make themselves aware of these additions by providing a valid contact email address.

A minimum of six unique schools must participate in order for the mini-campaign to occur. If six or less unique schools are not registered by the registration deadline, the mini-campaign will be canceled and those teams that were previously registered will be notified.

Award

Cash prizes will be awarded to all participating Chapters. The breakdown of prizes is as follows:

  • First place: $1,000
  • Second place: $750
  • Third place: $500
  • All non-placing registered teams that submit a two-page PDF summary will receive a $200 cash prize payable to their PRSSA Chapter.
