Best Practice Showcase: Ball State University

This year, Ball State University's PRSSA Chapter had its first annual Winter Conference. The Conference brought together all eight of the Indiana PRSSA Chapters. This year's theme: Success in Sight: Taking PR to New Heights, was accomplished by bringing in four distinguished public relations speakers from the Indianapolis area. Topics ranged from agency to health care.

Conference Director Emily Landis said, "I was happy to be able to work together with students and professionals to be able to give students an insight to the professional world of public relations."

*Share your Chapter's best practices by posting on the Best Practices Forum or by e-mailing Vice President of Member Services Kimberly Gouz. One Chapter will be recognized in each Bi-weekly e-mail for demonstrating and sharing its innovative and creative ideas with the Society.

The PRSSA Blog recently received an exciting placement in the January 30 edition of PRSA Issues and Trends. This mention of our Diversity segment increased exposure of the PRSSA Blog to a readership that includes more than 30,000 professionals and students. I encourage your participation in Blog discussions, as your feedback provides an opportunity to learn and be seen as an active participant in the Society.

“We do whatever we want, whenever we want, at all times.” – Ignigknot, Mooninite Aqua Teen Hunger Force

The events of January 31 and the clash between the City of Boston and the marketing/public relations firm retained by Time Warner Cable have sparked heated debate in the profession. Students and professionals alike are debating the fine line that exists between innovation and breaching the public’s trust.

Be part of that discussion by submitting content individually or as a Chapter to FORUM. Articles on public relations-related items are always welcome, and this is the last chance to be printed in the 2006-2007 academic year. For more information, contact Jay DeVoy, FORUM Editor-in-Chief.

Bryan Blaise, Vice President of Regional Activities

Whether you’re "East Coast busy" putting out crises, "Mid-West traditionalist" tasting the joys of life, or "laid-back West Coast" dreaming of your future, PRSSA has a Regional Activity this month that is just for you.

First, start off in the Twin Cities of Minnesota on Feb. 17, getting "A Taste of PR" from the University of Minnesota Chapter. In one jam-packed day, you'll satisfy every craving and interest you have about the industry.

Then, it's your call. You could take the next weekend (Feb. 23 and 24) to prepare for your future with Gonzaga University's two-day event. At this event, you’ll kick off the experience with a wine and cheese social and will learn the skills it takes to land that dream job.

Or, if you prefer the East coast, head to Elon University's "Rising from the Ashes." Learn from recent local crises managers and get thrown into a simulated crisis yourself. It's a chance to really prove what you're made of!

For cost, registration forms and more information about these and the rest of this year’s events, visit http://www.prssa.org/regional/schedule/schedule.asp.
