Launched in January 2004, New Professionals offers programs and services that address critical needs of the new professional. The 2003-2004 National Committee has extended the bid deadline for the 2004-2005 FORUM Editor-in-Chief position. Members interested in taking on this leadership role should have a strong journalism background and a supportive Chapter that will help with all aspects of publication. Scholarship Spotlight

All members are invited to apply for the Lawrence G. Foster scholarship award that emphasizes excellence in public relations. In a 1,000 to 1,200 word essay, students should address ethical and work standards and how they plan to achieve them in their own professional experiences. Regional Activities

The University of Tennessee will be hosting a Regional Activity entitled, “Volunteer PR from the Volunteers.” Featured speakers include: Michael Holtz, American Cancer Society; Mary Mahoney, Career Services; Simon Henley, Salvation Army; Jessie Hinch, Dance Marathon; and Penny Bandy, Second Harvest. Registration packets for the diversity regional activity entitled, Re-Inventing The Melting Pot: A Summit on Diversity in Public Relations and the Media, have been sent to all Chapters. The deadline for receipt of registration forms and fees is March 29, 2004.
This event will be highlighted by a professional panel discussion, networking activity and keynote luncheon presided over by Ofield Dukes, APR, Fellow PRSA. Organizations that will be in attendance include Edelman Public Relations, Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide, Fox Networks and The National Association for Multiculturalism in Communications.

April 23-24, 2004 - San Jose State University [tarakendig@aol.com]
The San Jose State Chapter is hosting a Regional Activity with two days of sessions that focus on current sports PR and event management topics. Students will find this to be an excellent networking opportunity to meet and talk with professionals from around the bay area. All students and majors are welcome.
The weekend will also include a tour of the HP Pavilion, a professional etiquette banquette, professional development sessions, a career fair, fun contests and raffle drawings with great items!
Pre-registration deadline is March 23. There will also be an information table Thursday night at National Assembly. Online registration is available at www.prssa.org/regional/forms.

Aloha ka kou! "Magnum PR: Professional Development in Paradise," is Hawaii’s debut regional activity. To be held at the Ala Moana Hotel, smack-dab in the middle of downtown Honolulu and Waikiki, the activity will showcase a tourism professional panel, crisis workshop and career expo. Along with a luau and Polynesian entertainment at Hawaiian Hut, students will experience the unique, professional environment of the islands.
