| NATIONAL COMMITTEE UPDATES |

Melissa Csuhran, National President: Where can you develop your public relations skills, network with experienced professionals and enjoy a Philly cheesesteak? Philadelphia, of course! In order to educate you and encourage your attendance at the 2007 National Conference, we added one fact about PRSSA per day, 40 days before Conference. Don't forget to visit www.prssa.org every day for a new fact – you may learn something you never knew before! See you in Philadelphia. Brandi Boatner, Vice President of Advocacy: Does your Chapter know the PRSSA Code of Ethics? September is a great time for Chapters to review the Code of Ethics to make sure members understand how important the Code is to our Society. September is PRSA National Ethics Month and I want to encourage PRSSA Chapters to support and celebrate Ethics Month in a variety of ways. Host an ethics quiz for your Chapter to see how many members know the PRSSA Code of Ethics inside and out. The member who knows the most should win a prize selected by your Chapter's executive board. The idea is to make the activity fun but still emphasize the significance of the Code of Ethics and why PRSSA's needs to have one. The ethical way is the only way in public relations. Chapters can also enter their Ethics month activity into the Plank Center Ethics Advocacy Award Competition. Entries must be received at PRSSA Headquarters by October 3. Awards to winning Chapters and their Faculty Advisors will be presented at the Awards Ceremony and Dinner on Monday, October 22 during the PRSSA National Conference Let's go Chapters….show us your ethics! Brenda Schulze, Vice President of Public Relations: Seeking Volunteers: In furthering the Synergetic Education Outreach Program, Public Relations 101 is an educational DVD currently in development with the purpose of promoting both the profession of public relations and PRSSA. A significant portion of the filming for Public Relations 101 will take place at the upcoming PRSSA 2007 National Conference and PRSA 2007 International Conference in Philadelphia on October 19-23. With various tasks necessary to make the production a success, I am looking for PRSSA members who would like to assist the camera crew and I at National Conference. Please contact me at brenda.schulze@gmail.com expressing your interest. Kelly McFall, Vice President of Regional Activities: Do you think your Chapter has what it takes to put leadership roles into action by planning and hosting a stellar PRSSA event? There is still time to submit a bid for a 2008 Regional Activity. Bids are due October 5, 2007. Hosting or co-hosting a Regional Activity is an opportunity to build your resume and portfolio, while networking with fellow PRSSA members and professionals. In addition, it is your Chapter's chance to enhance your event planning skills and even receive recognition at this year's National Conference in Philadelphia. So, don't delay, start working on your Regional Activity bid today! Use the Regional Activity Handbook as your step-by-step guide to planning your 2008 Regional Activity. In it, you will also find other helpful hints, along with the bid form. Contact the Vice President of Regional Activities for more information. Denise Kreft, Vice President of Internships and Job Services: Did you know that the JobCenter site also offers a Career Manual? If you click on the Resources link, you will find valuable tools to help you in all aspects of your career. The Career Manual offers tips on resume writing, cover letter samples, salary suggestions and a list of possible interview questions. The 2007-2008 JobCenter Sub-committee would like to announce a recent success. New Hampshire, a state previously unrepresented on JobCenter, posted two employment opportunities. Other states such as Nevada and Alabama have created employer accounts and we are still working hard to get all 50 states represented before the end of the school year. I would like to take this opportunity to share an exciting internship opportunity. The Georgia State Games is one of the largest Amateur Olympic-Style Sports Festivals in the country. They are currently seeking interns for the summer internship program. A few facts about the internship are listed below.
To learn more about this and other internship opportunities, go to www.prssa.org/jobcenter.
