PRSSA national dues for new and renewing members are due Nov. 1. National dues are $50 per member per calendar year and should be collected by the Chapter treasurer. The total dues for the entire chapter should be sent to PRSSA Headquarters with a single cashiers check, university-authorized check or money order, as well as the completed dues form. No prorating of dues is permitted, and a dues form must be submitted from each Chapter every dues period. Each student who pays dues will be a member from Nov. 1, 2008 to Oct. 31, 2009. your Chapter set the pace? During
National Conference, one Chapter will win the Pacesetter Award for making the
most positive, memorable impact on Society leadership, session speakers and
other attendees. Here are some tips to win: ˇ
Attend
all PRSSA sessions and PRSA general sessions ˇ
Network
with PRSSA members outside your Chapter ˇ
Be
friendly, upbeat and energetic ˇ
Have
fun! So what are you waiting for . . . come to conference
and set the pace!
Many Chapter
Presidents have told me their members do not get the Biweekly Update or other
messages from PRSSA Headquarters - a member benefit they are missing! If this is
true for members in your Chapter, please have them add prssa@prsa.org to their safelist, so that
PRSSA e-mails are not mistakenly sent to their spam folder. If this does not
correct the problem, send me an
e-mail listing names and correct e-mail addresses (preferably a personal
account, as school e-mail systems do not always offer a spam folder) and we
will work to correct the issue.
PRSA/PRSSA Relationship Month Take
advantage of October, PRSA/PRSSA Relationship Month, to get involved with your
local PRSA Chapter. Here are some ways to work with PRSA this month: ˇ Invite a local PRSA member to speak to your Chapter ˇ
Ask
if members of your Chapter can attend a PRSA meeting or event ˇ
Contribute
to the PRSSA National blog ˇ
Attend

month of school winds down, PRSSA gears up for National Conference. Share how
your Chapter is preparing for the big event by posting your Chapter News

Oct. 3 to be considered. Selected schools will be announced at National

"PRSA Diversity Today" podcasts PRSA
recently launched a series of podcasts titled "PRSA Diversity Today," which
delves deep into the moral and business value of diversity in today's
ever-changing business climate. Check out
September's topic, "Endangered
Species - Men in Public Relations?"
and listen to July and August too. Visit the site each month to join the conversation
and learn more about diversity-related topics. Connect
with the National Committee Four times a
year, the PRSSA National Committee puts together a newsletter about
new initiatives, projects members can get involved with and upcoming events.

| Best practices: University of Memphis doubles membership |

The University of Memphis PRSSA
Chapter stepped up their recruiting efforts and nearly doubled their
membership through a branding campaign. With the aid of a new graphics design
and newsletter editor, U of M PRSSA used the PRSSA Style Guide to brand their
Chapter. This increased the Chapter's recognition as an organized student group
on campus, and doubled their membership and increase diversity. Here are
some tactics the U of M used:
