SAVE THE DATE!

The PRSSA 2008 National Assembly is scheduled for March 13-16 in sunny San Diego, CA. Be certain to mark your calendars and look for more information in early December to register and run for a National Committee office.

BEST PRACTICES SHOWCASE: Sam Houston State University

The PRSSA Chapter at Sam Houston State University has been doing their part in promoting news and current events to their peers. This chapter participates in the "Read 'Em Up Kats" campaign, which is designed to promote education through reading the national newspaper, USA Today. A twister game featuring USA Today headlines instead of colored dots is set up in the university student center and winners of the game receive t-shirts and other prizes.

*Share your Chapter's best practices by e-mailing Allison Tomei, Vice President of Member Services. One Chapter will be recognized in each Bi-weekly e-mail for demonstrating and sharing its innovative and creative ideas with the Society.

Denise Kreft, Vice President of Internships and Job Services:

It's never to early or too late to start looking for internships. Many companies are currently seeking winter and summer. JobCenter has posted 13 new internship/employment opportunities this month. To see more employment opportunities, go to www.prssa.org/jobcenter. If you need your chapter login, contact Denise.

Ryan Matejka, Vice President of Chapter Development:

The National FUNdraising Bowl is getting ready for its fourth year. Last year, FUNdraisers from Chapters across the nation raised more than $14,000. All of these FUNdraisers can be found in the "FUNdraising Playbook" at www.prssa.org/fundraising.

During the months of January through April, Chapters compete for the title of National Fundraising Bowl Champion of the Month. Winners are drawn randomly from each month's submissions.

Chapters may submit their best FUNdraising practices online by filling out the application form in the FUNdraising manual, which may be downloaded at www.prssa.org/fundraising. Completed applications should be e-mailed to current Vice President of Chapter Development Ryan Matejka.

In May, the four monthly winners will be entered into a final drawing to determine the National FUNdraising Bowl Champion of the Year!

Dwayne Waite, Vice President of Chapter Development:

Hey PRSSA! Check the PRSSA Blog for posts about trends in the industry, what's going on in PRSSA and why PRSSA graduates are joining (and should join) PRSA.

Also, many Chapters are launching new Student-Run firms, so be sure to give them your support! If you have any questions about improving your Chapter and your PRSA Chapter's relationship, please contact Dwayne.

Ryan McShane, FORUM Editor-in-Chief:

Producing tangible work throughout college is one of the most important keys to finding an internship or first job. The ability to show, and not just tell, your future employer what you have accomplished can be the difference between finding a first-day outfit and finding another job to pursue.

In addition to writing for your college or university newspaper, PRSSA members have the opportunity to write for the Society's newspaper, FORUM.

The copy deadline for the winter issue is Dec. 10. Interested writers should send their story idea to Ryan. FORUM's available page sections include Industry & Society News, Opinions, Diversity & Ethics and Features.

Kelly McFall, Vice President of Regional Activities:

Conference may be over, but there are many exciting events coming your way this spring. If you thought ringing in 40 years of success in Philly was a blast, get ready for more good times during this year's Regional Activities! From speed networking sessions and resume workshops to building lasting relationships with your PRSSA peers, attending a Regional Activity is a perfect opportunity to learn more about the PR profession and celebrate the 40th Anniversary of PRSSA. Look for more information about these events on the PRSSA Web site soon!
