Save the date: PRSSA 2009 National Assembly
National President Brandi Boatner

Mark your calendars: The PRSSA 2009 National Assembly is scheduled for March 26–29 in New Orleans. At National Assembly a new National Committee is elected, PRSSA bylaw amendments are made and leadership training is provided for Chapter members.

I encourage each Chapter to send one delegate and as many members as you wish. PRSSA will cover the hotel accommodations for your one delegate. Go to www.prssa.org for information about running for the National Committee. Online registration will be available soon.

Contact Brandi Boatner with questions.

PRSSA Discussion Forum

The improved PRSSA Discussion Forum is now active.

On this message board, students interested in public relations can share ideas about important Society issues and discuss public relations topics such as diversity, dressing for success, networking, fundraising and community service projects.

Chapters, Chapter members and affiliates — everyone — should check the board often and participate in the discussion. Anyone can view the forum, and to post, simply register for a login and password.

The discussion is moderated by the National Committee, who reserve the right to delete threads that are deemed inappropriate. The discussion forum does not replace the PRSSA blog, so please continue to respond to blog posts regularly.

We look forward to reading your comments and sharing ideas with you.

Best practices spotlight: Rowan University PRSSA's "Darfur Awareness Day"

Inspired to action by actress and philanthropist Mia Farrow — a general session presenter at the 2007 PRSA International Conference — Rowan University PRSSA hosted a Darfur Awareness Day event Nov. 10.

In addition to booths, visuals and informational literature, Rowan PRSSA arranged for speakers who escaped from the region to teach students about the genocide. Attendees gave donations and contributed to written and video petitions. Darfur Awareness Day earned significant campus and local media attention. The PRSSA Chapter News release may be found here.

For more information about Rowan University PRSSA, contact Chapter President Brittany Vella.
